CALLING ALL SOLOISTS: 2016 Messiah Performance

The Grand Blanc Arts Council will be presenting the 29th Annual “Grand Blanc Community Messiah Performance” this coming November 20, with Dr. Simon Lee as guest music director.  In preparation for the event, auditions for soloists will occur on Sunday, June 5, from 2:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Holy Family Catholic Church – Grand Blanc; 11824 S. Saginaw Street.  Holy Family will also be the site for all rehearsals as well as the November 20, performance.

 

Below is a list of all recitatives and arias for which soloist are being sought.

    From PART ONE

    • “Comfort Ye My People”  - tenor
    • “Ev’ry Valley Shall Be Exalted” – tenor
    • “Thus Saith The Lord”  -  bass
    • “But Who May Abide”  - bass, alto, or counter tenor
    • “Behold, A Virgin Shall Conceive” – alto
    • “Oh Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion” – alto
    • “For Behold, Darkness Shall Cover the Earth”    -  bass
    • “The People That Walked in Darkness”  -  bass
    • “There Were Shepherds Abiding in the Field” soprano
    • “And Lo, The Angel of the Lord Came Upon Them” – soprano
    • “And the Angel Said Unto Them” – soprano
    • “And Suddenly There Was With the Angel” – soprano
    • “Rejoice Greatly, O Daughter of Zion” – soprano

        From PART TWO

    • “He Was Despised”  -  alto
    • “All They That see Him, Laugh Him to Scorn” - tenor
    • “Thy Rebuke Hath Broken His Heart  - tenor
    • “Behold, and See If There Be any Sorrow  -  tenor
    • “He Was Cut off Out of the Land of the Living”  - tenor
    • “But Thou Didst Not Leave His Soul in Hell”  - tenor
           
        From PART THREE

    • “Behold, I Tell You a Mystery”  - bass
    • “The Trumpet Shall Sound”  - bass

All those auditioning are expected to bring their own copy of Messiah with them to the audition, however an accompanist will be provided.  Soloists may audition for as many recits/arias as they wish, but each recit/aria must be sung in its entirety.  There will be no assigned audition times; thus all those auditioning will be heard on a first come first served basis.  Come warmed up and prepared to audition.  Those auditioning will be informed as soon as possible regarding the success of their audition.  If you have any questions concerning the audition, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots.
