Tom Myers is a native of Michigan. He spent his early years in Flint, and later moved to Davison where he graduated from High School. After being wounded in Viet Nam, he returned to the Flint area. He enrolled at Mott Community College and later received a BSinED. from Central Michigan University. Tom worked for General Motors for over 30 years and retired from there in 2000.
Much like Grandma Moses, Tom realized an interest in, and a talent for art later in life. After joining a local painting group he became interested in oil painting, in particular. Tom finds the versatility of oil offers him a wide range of painting techniques, from impressionism to realism. He has enjoyed trying these different styles and techniques over the past few years. His art evokes images of homes, farms, and people of his own area.
Tom's love of family and home, as well as fond memories of the area are all present in his paintings. None of his paintings are an exact representation of what he sees. For that, he could take a photograph. Tom's paintings are more about mood and a certain warm feeling done with creativity.
Tom has paintings showing at Flint Institute of Arts and A&J Gallery of Bay City. He is a member of Greater Flint Arts Council, Grand Blanc Arts Council, Shiawassee Art Center, Fenton Art Guild, as well as the Flint Institute of Arts.
