In partnership with Genesys Hospice, the Grand Blanc Arts Council is featuring an exhibit of abstract paintings by Sonya Persia September 22 - December 1st at Genesys Health Park on the second floor.
Sonya Persia has exhibited in California and throughout Michigan. Locally her work has been seen at the U of M–Flint, the FIA, Left Bank, GFAC, Buckham Gallery, McClaren Hospital, and at Genesys 2005-6.
The artist explains that as she puts down her impressions, the images become less figurative. Massive shapes of the land are a constant subject, encouraging her to let the paint flow thinly. Her more spontaneous paintings let you see the paint before you see the image.
To purchase a piece of artwork from the exhibit, contact Hospice at 810-636-5000, ext . 5003. 25% of proceeds from art sales are donated to Genesys Hospice.
Sonya lives in Highland Michigan, spends time in California during the winter and part of the summer in Minnesota. She paints wherever she is because she has to paint. Painting becomes not only a vocation but a habit. "Something you have to do".
